The Nanjing, Jiangsu, China Ikea opened at the end of August and has been packed with modern trend and comfort seekers ever since. Customers arriving by a mixture of BMWs, bicycles, motorbikes and rickshaws explore the merchandise with unbounded enthusiasm. Cries of joy are heard throughout the kitchen gadget section as mother-in-laws in sleeve protectors discover microwave plate covers, and the line of men in business suits awaiting access to the office chair demo floor rivals only that of KFC on customer appreciation day.
