Due to the movement of foreign-financed sweatshops to less powerful and less demanding nations like Vietnam and Cambodia, many Chinese nationalists have begun to test their creative impulses and luck in the garment industry. With an abundance of leftover Western-style dummies at their disposal, aspiring designers can finally dress life-size foreigners to their pleasing. The result, a bizarre pastiche of every Western fashion blunder in recent history, is a flagrant enough assault on visual capacities to draw a mocking giggle from even the most accepting foreign-deal-bin shoppers. One such tourist was overheard commenting, “It’s great that they’re experimenting, but maybe someone should give them a couple of cheap t-shirts and some puff-paint instead.”
