Nanjing, CHINA – After three days of continuous drilling the unidentified mustached man on the ladder finally made it through the cement and brick wall and into lucky classroom 8. Though his workspace partially blocked the steps of the entrance to the main building the man’s progress went unimpeded and unquestioned throughout. Students of class 8 concurred, “This is Chinese education, everything is boring and drilling. This is, how you say? Every day currency.” A monitor, sent by her classmates (admittedly groggy after her traditional three hour lunch period) to confirm exactly which parts of the hammering would be on the exam, found no trace of the visitor. “He must have…

SLIGHTLY MORE PHOTOGENIC AS MAN
Shanghai, CHINA – A bust of Eric T. Sanders, was recently found in the ancient sculpture wing of the Shanghai Museum. The well-preserved, roughly-carved giant head – which, incidentally, is often referred to as “The Judge” – was previously thought to be some sort of god, demon or school teacher. Despite photographic proof, a Chinese museum spokesperson vehemently denied any resemblance between the artifact and the living Westerner, demonstrating the absurdity of this assertion by reminding reporters, “China didn’t even invent Westerners until the 14th century.”

On this holiday in 2008 the Olympic torch passed over the quaint dam nearby and into our city of Yichang. This year’s big event, best known as Swine Flu, made a surprise appearance in the form of an alleged Nanjing city-wide mandate for foreigners to be quarantined (in their personal apartments) for a week upon return from the USA or Canada. Since our summer trip to the States was scheduled to be about 15 days this basically means we’re either fired, quarantined, or vacationless . . . Children’s Day: best day ever!

A young Chinese man who mines his nose for a living is said to have discovered a new and important substance he calls, Yichang Gold. “I was exploring the eastern gallery when all of a sudden I came across a hard foreign feeling substance. I used my extra long leisure nail to scrape it loose. When exposed to air it turned almost immediately into a softer, gray substance, but I swear to Huanhuan, it was bright, almost neon yellow when I first pulled it out. I think I may have discovered the 119th element!” The young man, who calls himself Didi, now carries a weapon to protect his treasures. When this reporter asked to see the gems, Didi admitted that it would take a few days as he hides them in his stomach.

Townsfolk examine ducks for signs of disaster
Remote Place, CHINA – ‘Swine’ not ‘Swan’ fu read the latest in a series of misleading and misinterpreted messages from an unknown but important source. Two weeks ago a similar message prompted the slaughter of the town’s entire duck population. After careful inspection mayor Huli announced, “It has been determined that the ducks look delicious, but, in light of the international flue crisis, they shall not be burned.” When asked why they slaughtered ducks in response to the problem of deadly swans, a town spokesman answered, “Upon careful analysis of the English language it was determined that duc…
